What Is Omega 3 And Why Do I Need It?

Omega 3 fatty acids are healthy polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) obtained through our diet that play an important role in our overall health, including eye, heart and brain function.

With regular use, Omega 3 has even been found to alleviate inflammation and improve mood by relieving symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Omega 3 fats are a form of unsaturated fat - this is the type of fat that is good for your cholesterol levels. This is not to be confused with unhealthy saturated fats, which is found in certain foods such as processed meats, fatty meats and desserts.

Since our bodies don’t naturally produce Omega 3 like they do other fats, it’s important for us to maintain a balanced diet and take supplements to further support our intake.

Where does Omega 3 come from?

When most people think about Omega 3, the first thought that comes to mind is fish. It’s true that you can obtain Omega 3 through fish and other foods such as nuts and seeds, but we harness it from its original source: algae.

Algae is one of the purest and most sustainable sources of Omega 3 docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which is among one of the most vital types of Omega-3 fatty acids we need to maintain a healthy body and feel our best every day.

In the wild, this remarkable plant organism feeds microscopic krill which are then eaten by fish. So, those who eat fish are able to get Omega 3 through their diet.

However, consuming seafood isn’t a sustainable way to enjoy all of the benefits that Omega 3 has to offer, so we wanted to find a way around this to get all of the goodness without the guilt. This is how NothingFishy was born!

We source our Omega 3 from specially grown algae in closely monitored pools of salt water away from the ocean, allowing us to create a purer product for you and a better future for the natural ecosystems in our oceans.
